Cans! Num Num Num!

Last time I got out the crayons, Jonathan got very excited and shouted "CANS! Num num num!" (translation: crayons! yummy!) He is my only child who enjoys art time, if for the wrong reasons (he eats the supplies, in case you were wondering.) Jimmy and Amelia hate drawing, writing, and coloring. Does anyone have tips on how to encourage these activities or make them fun for kids?

You probably already know this, but one thing that I do is to get Joshua coloring/activity books on subjects that he is most excited about. For example, we have several construction equipment, racecar, Cars, etc. coloring and activity books and he loves them. It definitely helped get him interested in coloring when he was pretty little. So if there are topics that they are passionate about (which I'm sure there are), get 'em where they're vulnerable. Could Jimmy resist if you asked him to draw you a picture of Crismon Shedds?

I'll have to ask for a picture of Crismon Shedds! I am curious to see what he looks like.
We have quite a few coloring books on interesting subjects, but the kids just read them. Jimmy's teacher is encouraging us to have him do coloring, etc at home because it is the only area where he is "inconsistant."

You also might teach them how to draw things they might want to draw. It helped a bunch when I showed Joshua how to draw a car (a big circle with two little circles under it) because he liked that he could do it too.
